Omni Network is a Layer 1 blockchain designed to connect all rollups (Layer 2 scaling solutions) in the Ethereum ecosystem. Its primary purpose is to act as a universal interoperability layer, allowing users and developers to access applications and assets seamlessly across different rollups like Arbitrum, Optimism, zkSync, and others, without needing to bridge between them manually. Omni achieves this by allowing smart contracts deployed on Omni to communicate and interact with applications on any connected rollup. The native token, OMNI, is central to the network's operation, used for paying gas fees on Omni, staking to secure the network (using a dual-staking model involving OMNI and staked ETH), and participating in network governance. By creating a unified environment across disparate rollups, Omni aims to solve the liquidity fragmentation and poor user experience often encountered when navigating multiple Layer 2 solutions, paving the way for a more composable and interconnected decentralized ecosystem.
