Numeraire (NMR) is the token powering Numerai, a hedge fund that uses artificial intelligence and a network of decentralized data scientists to predict stock market movements. Numerai provides encrypted financial data to a global community of data scientists who build machine learning models to predict the stock market. Participants stake NMR tokens on the accuracy of their models; if the model is successful in predicting the market, they earn more NMR, but if it fails, their staked NMR is destroyed (burned). This unique mechanism incentivizes accurate predictions while penalizing poor ones, aligning the interests of the data scientists with the fund's performance. NMR serves as the staking mechanism, the reward token, and potentially a governance token for the Numerai platform as it evolves. Numeraire represents one of the most established examples of integrating AI, crowd-sourcing, and blockchain economics to create a decentralized, data-driven investment fund, leveraging collective intelligence for financial prediction and capital allocation.
