Marlin is a network layer protocol designed to provide high-performance infrastructure for decentralized applications (dApps) across various blockchains. Its focus is on improving the speed, scalability, and cost-efficiency of communication between nodes, especially for tasks like block propagation (distributing new blocks quickly across the network) and data relay for dApps. By operating at the network layer, Marlin aims to complement existing blockchain layers (Layer 1 and Layer 2) without requiring changes to their consensus mechanisms. The native token, POND, serves as the utility and governance token for the Marlin ecosystem. It is used for staking by operators of Marlin nodes (known as Metanodes) to provide network services, for rewarding node operators for their contributions, and for participating in the governance of the Marlin protocol through a separate governance token, MPOND, which can be staked or locked to accrue POND and voting power. Marlin's goal is to create a more efficient and scalable network backbone for the decentralized web.
