Goldfinch is a decentralized credit protocol that aims to bring cryptocurrency lending to the real world by allowing borrowers to access capital without requiring crypto collateral. It focuses on providing financing for businesses and financial technology companies in emerging markets by evaluating creditworthiness based on real-world business activity rather than solely on on-chain crypto assets. The protocol introduces roles like "Backers" who provide junior tranche capital and earn higher yields, and "Liquidity Providers" who provide senior tranche capital via the Senior Pool. The Goldfinch (GFI) token is the native governance token for the protocol. GFI holders participate in the decentralized governance of the Goldfinch protocol, voting on proposals regarding protocol upgrades, parameter changes, and the approval of borrower pools. GFI is also used to incentivize participation from Backers and Auditors (who perform human oversight on borrower pools) and can be staked to earn rewards. Goldfinch seeks to expand access to capital globally and provide DeFi investors with yield opportunities tied to off-chain economic activity, addressing the limitations of crypto-collateralized lending.
