Djed (DJED) is an algorithmic stablecoin protocol built on the Cardano blockchain. Developed by IOG and Emurgo and implemented by COTI, Djed is designed to maintain a stable value against a target fiat currency (like USD) by using a reserve of other cryptocurrencies (like ADA) and utilizing reserve tokens (Shen token). It is an overcollateralized stablecoin, meaning the value of the reserves backing Djed is greater than the value of the Djed tokens in circulation, providing a buffer against volatility. DJED stablecoins are used for transactions, payments, and participating in DeFi activities on the Cardano network, offering a stable medium of exchange within the ecosystem. Its stability is maintained algorithmically through minting and burning mechanisms involving the reserve token.
