Avail is a modular blockchain project focused specifically on providing scalable and robust Data Availability (DA). In modular blockchain architecture, layers are separated for execution, settlement, consensus, and data availability. Avail aims to serve as a foundational DA layer that can be used by various rollups (Optimistic and ZK-Rollups) and other blockchains to publish their transaction data. By specializing in DA, Avail allows execution layers (like rollups) to offload the task of making transaction data available and verifiable, significantly increasing throughput and reducing costs compared to publishing all data directly onto monolithic chains like Ethereum L1. Avail uses a novel approach called Data Availability Sampling (DAS) and KZG commitments to allow light clients to verify data availability efficiently. The native token (likely AVAIL) will be used for staking by validators who secure the Avail chain and its data, and likely for paying transaction fees for publishing data to Avail. Avail positions itself as a crucial piece of infrastructure for the multi-chain, modular future of blockchain scaling.
